The index is calculated with Laspeyres formula.
Just as a price-index, the net agriculture production index is calculated by adding price-weighted quantities of different agricultural commodities produced in a year. Here, 'net' means the deduction of quantities used as seed and feed. To obtain the index, the aggregate for a given year is divided by the average aggregate for the base period, in this case 2004-2006. The ”international commodity prices” are special prices designed to permit the comparison across different countries (see: Geary-Khamis). Basically, the commodities included in the calculation are crops and livestock produced in each country. Coffee and tea are excluded.
