Population Exposure Estimates in Proximity to Nuclear Power Plants

How close you live to a nuclear power plant? The map below shows the 2010 Population exposed within 30 km from a nuclear power plant. Source: Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN)/Columbia University. 2015.

Note that the power plants in Italy were closed in the eighties, but they are still being dismantled so they show up in the map. Also, the Swiss reactor in Lucens has been shut down since 1969 after a partial core meltdown. The site has been decontaminated and decommissioned. A few similar cases may occur elsewhere in the map. 

I have not indicated the number of reactors for each site, but this should be obviously taken into account in a risk assessment.
